Practitioner Experience and Training

All our practitioners are experienced therapists before they even begin to study the specific Ageing Unplugged programme and so they have abundant skills to help you get the best out of it. Any one of them will be happy to have a chat with you by phone, by Skype, or in person to advise you of their availability and what they can do for you.

They all have plenty of therapy experience, some specialising in certain areas such as pain management, anxiety, depression or other issues and these will show on their profiles on this site. Most will be able to work with you via Skype if you’re not able to visit them in person – and it’s possible that some might come to you, either at home or your place of work. This is very much up to the individual practitioner, as is their scale of fees.

If you don’t see a practitioner in your area, more will be joining soon – Ageing Unplugged was launched in 2018 and the training programme is ongoing.

My name is Karen Shaw, and I live and work in Plymouth, Devon.  As an experienced Hypnotherapist I have thoroughly enjoyed working with older clients, helping them amongst other things to overcome anxiety, fears and worries about ageing, manage lifestyle changes, as well as helping with pain and palliative care.  Consequently training and qualifying as a practitioner of the Ageing Unplugged® programme has been a natural progression for me, and I look forward to being able to help people achieve their full potential and make the most of their later years.

Having a background in Hypnotherapy is a great advantage, as it means I am experienced in encouraging people to identify their own strengths and resources, and to utilise them to solve problems, alleviate fears, and make the most of life.  Also clients can decide whether or not to have Hypnotherapy, Ageing Unplugged® or a combination of both.

I became interested in psychology while training to become a teacher, and have made a lifelong study of it for both personal and professional interest.  Since leaving the teaching profession I have had various roles in business, and finally made the break to work with my major interest in 2016 when I completed Hypnotherapy training.  In my spare time I enjoy walking, particularly on Dartmoor, along the coast and in the many wonderful woodlands we have in the UK.

The Ageing Unplugged programme is wide-reaching and I am qualified to help with a range of issues, backed up with my experience as a Hypnotherapist.  I can help you manage distressing life situations and make the best of circumstances that seem beyond your control.  I am trained and experienced in working with anxiety, depression, fears and phobias, weight control, disordered eating, grief, palliative care, pain, smoking cessation, goal setting, to name but a few.  See my personal website for further information and client comments:

At the start of the Ageing Unplugged programme, after collecting detailed information from you we discuss which parts of the programme would be most suitable for your situation and circumstances, and a course of therapy is then tailored to suit your personal needs.
